Make a beautiful area rug with Jelly Roll strips and batting that can be used anywhere in your home. This technique is sew much fun and easy with results that are impressive. Great for personal use or for gifts for friends and family.
Jelly Rolls are cute, coordinating, round, fabric "treats" consisting of 40-42 2 1/2" x 42" strips of a particular designer's fabric line.
1 Jelly Roll will make a 30" x 44" oval rug.

PRIOR TO CLASS:
Decide how you would like to arrange the strips in your rug. I usually (but not always) put the darkest fabrics around the outside edge and leave the rest as they are organized in the Jelly Roll. Starting with the outside edge, sew the strips together short end to short end either diagonally as in creating bias binding or straight across with a 1/4" seam allowances. Continue until all the strips are sewn together into one continuous long strip. Press your seams open and fan-fold the strip at 12" long increments and tie loosely at both ends (near the folds) with a ribbon or scrap strip of fabric to help it stay contained in this fan-folded position. Don't stress about the arrangement of your strips, this is your first one and it will be beautiful, I promise! I have never made a rug that I did not love!!
