Chubby Charmer Tote Bag

The Chubby Charmer Bag pattern makes up into a great big bag for carrying everything around. This bag pattern can also be used as a 9" x 13" casserole carrier! And of course, all your sewing supplies are easily toted to class in this fun bag to make using one 48 piece or two 24 piece packs of 5" Charms.

*Please bring a lunch for a break in the class*

This is a two session class!

Items Needed:

Chubby Charmer Pattern (available at All Brands Sewing Center)

  •        Lining—1 yard

  •        Straps— ½ yard

  •        Pockets—½ yard

  •        Outside—1 yard**if you choose to use a single piece of fabric instead of a charm pack.

  •        1-2 charm packs—5-inch squares—48 total squares—(I usually buy one charm pack and 2-3 fat quarters to match)

  •        Craftex—8½ x 17 inches

  •        Bag Bottom fabric to cover Craftex—½ yard (I usually use same fabric as lining)

Cutting Requirements

  •        48 …. 5-inch squares

  •        Handles (2) 6½ x WOF (width of fabric)

  •        Pockets (2) 12 x 18

  •        Lining (2) 18 x 27*** Wait to cut this.  Make the bag fronts and then measure each front.  Cut the lining out according to these measurements.

  •        Fusible Foam (2) 20 x29 (outside of bag)

  •        Fusible Fleece (2) 6½ x WOF

  •        Fusible Fleece (1) 6 x 18 (long pocket)

  •        Fusible Fleece (1) 9 x 12 (square pocket)

  •        Fusible Fleece (2) 18 x 27 (lining) **** wait to cut this.  Measure the bag first and then cut out lining and fleece.

  • 39 inches x 14 inches to cover craftex (bottom of the bag - I usually have same fabric as lining).

The bag can be (hopefully) completed in class if you do the following before class:

  •        Cut all fabric EXCEPT lining

  •        Cut all foam and fleece EXCEPT lining fleece

  •        Sew 5 inch squares, according to the pattern instructions

  •        You will be quilting your front and back of bag on Friday

Additional items:
sewing machine in good working order and knowledge on how to use it; bobbins; scissors; rotary cutter; cutting mat if you have one; clover clips (great for holding down handles as you sew); pins (if you don’t use clover clips); thread to match or accent your fabric.  Thread and bobbin to match for quilting and top stitching of handles
