Beginner Garment Class - Top or Dress!

We will use Sonya Phillips, 100 Acts of Sewing – Dress No.1 or Top No. 1
Top and Dress full size patterns are included in her book, which is a great deal!
Buy the book, it is fabulous! Easy to follow, great hacks. An easy, fun, and simple sleeveless A-line summer dress or top.
It can be classic linen – or a bold template for a feature fabric/panel! This is the perfect pattern for large scale prints.
Think crazy pocket, wild contrasting binding. Throw it on and have fun!

SUPPLIES: Available from ALL BRANDS – discounted for class!
NECESSARY:
1. Pattern: Sonya Phillips, 100 Acts of Sewing
2. Fabric: See patterns for sizes and yardage.
Recommended: cotton, linen or natural fiber blend woven fabric.
Such as - quilting cotton or light weight denim (4 oz.)
(no jersey or knits, flimsy rayon and no gauze)
If choosing contrasting fabrics - be sure your thread color coordinates or matches both fabrics!
These patterns do include a lot of ease in the finished garment.
Bias tape – 1/2 yard (contrast is fun)
3. Sewing Machine in good working order (threaded, new microtes needle), 2 bobbins, manual
4. Thread 100% Polyester, color of choice
5. Needles - Microtex 80 NEW
6. Basic sewing stuff: rotary cutter (45, 60mm), pins (sharp!), scissors (paper & fabric), seam ripper, Frixion
heat erasable pen/chalk/tailor’s chalk), seam gage, measuring tape, etc.


OPTIONAL but nice to have:
- Thread snips (I use Gypsy brand)
- Stiletto – I love this tool!

Skills you will gain:

- Creating a pattern that fits for your body style`

BEFORE CLASS:
Wash and gently press fabric – if it needs it
Have your Sewing Machine in good working order - and bring it threaded, with a new needle.
