Quilted Jacket HACK!

*Please bring your lunch for a break in the class :)*

Have you been wanting to make a quilted jacket…But it seemed like just too much work? For this class we will sort of ‘cheat’ and use a thrifted quilt. The quilt does not need to be a ‘pieced’ quilt can be a simple printed type. Hey, it can even have a bit of wear (hole/stain). We can work around almost anything. An upcycled quilt includes outer fabric, batting, lining and is already quilted – saving so much work!
Get Ready to Thrift!!

What quilt to thrift:
Twin size or larger –
 - Has fabric backing, not bare
Cotton fabric is best
Not too poofy or thick, thinner is easiest to sew
Must be machine ‘wash and dry’
A decorative bias or scalloped edge can be a great design feature!
‘Generally’ have the quilting is intact – doesn’t need to be perfect
Closures:
~1- 1.5” wide buttons
         - Thrift these at Scrap RVA!
OR extra-large sew on snaps
OR riveted snaps

THE BOOK/Pattern:
Sewing Quilted Patchwork Jackets by Rae Cumbie and Carrie Emerson (included with the class!!!)
This includes the OPUS jacket pattern! (With or without a collar)
The book includes:
- 10 quilted jacket and coat projects
- Patterns for adults and kids (tiled patterns)
- Plus a QR code link to download full format patterns, for printing
We will generally follow the OPUS pattern (pg. 90), but in a shorter jacket style
Their simple but unique square armhole eliminates bulk under the arm! Unlike other patterns!
The pattern has very inclusive sizing, XS to 3XL ( bust 30-58”, hip 33-63”)
