Create a Classic Umbrella



Learn to make a classic umbrella that you can use for full rain coverage.  Classic umbrellas are ideal for your daily protection either the sun rays or rain showers.   It seams that making an umbrella is hard, but it is easier than you think!  Class fee includes pattern and frame.  Be sure to bring a lunch or snack.

Supply List:

if your fabric is: 54" wide - 1 1/4 yds
                        44" wide - 1 1/2 yds
**stipes, plaids, and one-way designs, require at least 2 1/2 yds or more

fabric suggestions:  rip-stop nylon, lace yardage, cotton, laminated cotton (do not use stiff, nonflexible laminated type or oil cloth); cotton is the easiest to use, especially for the first time when constructing your umbrella - batiks are a favorite

sewing machine in good working order
3 serger cones - one can be wooly nylon
fray check
heavy duty thread
hand sewing needle
craft glue
one gripper snap or 1" hook and loop tape for the closure
waterproofing spray (Scotch-Guard)

Optional: Plastic for template for ease of cutting out pattern. Lace, doily, or fringe. Lower hem length is approx. 4 1/2 yards
